Educational Excellence Campaign

Since 2007, the NNHS PTSO Educational Excellence (EdEx) Campaign has raised close to $300,000 to enhance teaching, learning and the overall student experience at Newton North. Recent campaigns raised funds for innovative physics equipment, enhancements to the outdoor campus, resources and support for student mental and emotional health, and biology lab tools.

We are pleased to launch the 2025-26 Educational Excellence campaign. This year your donations will support civics education at Newton North. Civics education helps our kids understand not just how government works, but why their voices matter. Students who take part in strong civics programs are more likely to vote, volunteer, and stay engaged throughout their lives. We have two exciting goals: a new Junior Class civics experiential learning program and increased support for The Center for Civic Engagement and Service (CCES), which helps students across all grades turn their ideas for change into real community projects.

Our goal is to raise $20,000 this year for these impactful programs. Donate via PayPal, Venmo @NNHSPTSO or check to: NNHS PTSO, 457 Walnut St. Newton, MA 02460. Thank you for your support!

Please send any questions to co-presidents@northptso.org or nnhsedex@northptso.org.

Past Achievements

Previous EdEx campaigns have gone towards funding that provides ongoing support to the following:

Supporting curricular innovation

  • Expansion of the physics curriculum to include data science – building student skills to measure and interpret the complex phenomena in the world around them.
  • Equipping the school’s biology laboratories with additional tools, including mini-PCRs and micropipettes.
  • Purchase of biotech equipment so that all biology students at NNHS can complete at least one one biotech lab in their biology class

Encouraging Outdoor Learning

  • Installing permanent shades and furniture at outdoor locations around the building, and covering associated maintenance costs.
  • Installation of a vertical “green roof” vegetable garden on the Theatre Wing to promote sustainability.

Additional resources for teachers and students

  • Establishing the Collaborations in Anti-Racism and Equity (C.A.R.E.) fund at Newton North High School. The fund is dedicated to helping Newton North students develop the skills to respectfully discuss racial topics and providing funding for speakers and curriculum-related resources.
  • The Tiger Talks Fund, which brings a wide range of speakers and special programs to NNHS students.
  • The Newton North Center for Civic Engagement and Service, dedicated to helping students develop a life-long commitment to service and social responsibility.
  • Purchase books and print-reference materials for the library, enhancing literacy and supporting classroom teaching.
